Muse features portraits of women by four American female photographers: Tanyth Berkeley, Eve Fowler, Katy Grannan, and Dana Hoey. Significant to all four artists’ exhibited projects is the collaborative relationship between the artist and her subject. The photographs by these artists consistently employ alternative approaches to the representation of women resulting in images that force the viewer to question how the female form has been objectified by artists and popular culture.
In concurrence with the exhibition, all four artists will visit Tulane University to participate in a symposium on the aesthetics and politics of gender representation on Thursday, Jan. 21st from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Freeman Auditorium, Woldenberg Art Center. A reception for the artists will immediately follow in the Carroll Gallery from 8:00 - 10:00 pm. The exhibition runs through February 12, 2010.
